New job!

I am quite excited to announce that I have found a new job. Starting two weeks from now, I will be working at Unet, a dutch company for broadband, fiber and VOIP services mostly aimed at the business market. My job will combine senior developer work with being the team lead of the PHP development team at Unet.

The decision to work for Unet did not come easy as there are quite a few cool opportunities on the market here in the Netherlands right now (looking for one? let me know, I can point you in a few directions!). There were a few main reasons I decided to go for Unet in the end:

1) No PHP development shop
Unet is not a PHP development shop. The PHP work done at Unet is not done for external clients but for internal clients. Even though working for external clients can be fun, I've already experienced the joy of working for internal clients on shared products while working at TomTom, and have found that to be very cool. It allows you to focus on quality and ensures shorter lines of communication between "client" and developers.

2) Muchos symfony
The main project I will be working on is an internal PHP-based application which is built on symfony (1.2 at this point). Given my involvement in the symfony community and advocacy for the framework, the fact that most of the PHP work done at Unet is based on symfony is a huge plus for the company (at least to me ;) ).

All in all enough to be excited about I'd think!

gravatar Pascal de Vink: Good luck on your new job. I know you'll have fun, as I used to work there for one-and-a-half years :)
If you run into any Single Sign On applications, I must apologize in advance as I was still young back then.

Anyway, your job offer seems rather interesting. Does the list contain anything in Amsterdam by chance?

Greetings,
Pascal

gravatar left: Pascal: sounds good. I did get the idea I'd have a fun time there ;) Yes, amongst the opportunities I am in touch with, there is one in Amsterdam. I'll send you an e-mail somewhere today with some info :)

Ryan: Yup, I'm quite happy about that as well. I had hoped to do more symfony than I did in the past 1.5 years, so finally doing professional symfony again (instead of just my hobby sites) is a welcome change

Patrick: Thanks mate. :)

gravatar left: Thijs: Thanks! And as far as I know, Ibuildings is currently not looking for new employees, at least in The Netherlands. Ibuildings UK was looking IIRC.

Lorna: Heh, try to keep me from staying in touch (oh, that sounds a bit scary perhaps ;) ) ... yes, I'm really looking forward to it :)
