4developers, or: a quick trip to Poland

This weekend, I will be doing a quick trip to Poland. Overthere, a new conference is seeing the light called 4developers, and I will be part of the "dedicated languages" track with my refactoring talk.

The trip will be a very quick trip. I will fly out tomorrow evening, land in Katowice (1.5 hours from Krakow, as I have understood) at 21:30. I will attempt to sleep in the hotel, and then get up early as I'm on second in the Dedicated Languages track (after Ibuildings CTO and overall cool guy Ivo Jansch) to do my refactoring talk.

My refactoring talk will be a slightly adapted version of the earlier refactoring talks I did. It will still contain PHP code examples, but will also ensure people know that this practice is not limited to PHP only, but will work in any language when done properly.

After my talk, I'll have a few hours to talk to people before having to leave again for my late afternoon flight back home. I am a bit sad about not having time to explore Krakow and surrounding areas, however having done PHP UK Conference last weekend and being in Rome for PHPCon Italia in two weeks time, I didn't feel like being away from my wife and kids for too long.

If you're from Poland (or just living there) feel free to come over to 4developers on saturday. It will be fun, I promise :)

Looking forward to your presentation. Have a good flight.

Auch :/ so sad I'm missing this event, was in Krakow this mirning but had to move away for some earlier planned trip :(
Hope you'll enjoy you time and come one day to see Krakow or Wroclaw (which is much more it orientired city)

It's a pity, php related conferences in Poland happens so rarely. There so many interesting topics to show off to developers - ria, highloads, ui etc. but nobody wants organize it here. Instead of it we have lots of startup related conferences, which are good, but at some point are less usefull. Myself I decided to see conferences in Germany and UK this year, its just 2 hours flight from Poland and should be really interesting.

P.s. Dont be scare of Katowice's airport ;) good luck!

Anton: it's a shame you won't be there. As far as I know, this is the first time 4developers is being organized, but hopefully it won't be the last time.

ace: Actually, a big part of my talk was not refactored but rewritten ;)

gravatar koziolek: Very nice presentation, but you should add some live examples (no slides but live coding) and say something more about time (when we should start refactoring, a "project time"), people (who should refactor code, owner everyone, advantages/disadvantages of this ways) and cost (how much time we spend refactoring). In my opinion many "script developers" (like php) have problem to define when they should refactor code and what kind of extras they will have. There many people who just start they great journey with programming and has a lot of questions "why?"
